Luke's gospel records this ordinance instituted by our Lord Jesus... "And he took the bread, and gave thanks, and brake it, and gave it unto them, saying, This is my body which is given for you" this do in remembrance of me. Likewise also the cup after the supper saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood, which is shed for you." (Luke 22:19-20)

Jesus said, "This is the NEW TESTAMENT of my blood." As believers, we are to remember what this New Testament brought to us. Multitudes in the Christian community have no discernment as to what this ordinance really means. Traditional stances relegate this act to a weekly, monthly or spasmodic church ritual. The partaking of the bread and the cup must be accepted as a "personal" act of faith. It establishes our personal covenant relationship with God. If we have accepted Christ as our personal Saviour, we have entered into this covenant relationship with our God.
In Hebrews 8:10 it is written..."For this is that covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people: And they shall not teach every man his neighbor, and every man his brother, saying, Know the Lord: For ALL shall know me, from the least to the greatest."
This is that New Covenant or New Testament that Christ was speaking of which He established between God and man.
The "house of Israel" spoken of in these scriptures refer to ALL true believers in the promised Messiah, even Jesus the Annointed One, the Son of the Living God. Believers (born-again Christians) not the literal Jews under the Old Testament, but the spiritual Jews under the New Testament through Christ. This is very important to understand!
The "house of Israel" now represents the church of the Living God. The "house of Israel" now constitutes Christ's spiritual house, whose house we are. (Heb3:6) The "Israel of God" are those who have become new creatures in Christ.
In Galatians 6:15-16 we read..."For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision availeth anything, nor uncircumcision, but a NEW CREATURE. And as many as walk according to this rule, peace be on them, and mercy, and upon the Israel of God."
Because of the fall of man, God could not write His laws upon the heart of stone. We know from the scriptures that all of mankind has been born of Adam's nature. The heart is deceitful and wicked until God changes it. That change could not be experienced under the Old Covenant because the blood of Christ had not been shed. This is the meaning of the words, "after those days" in the Hebrew letter. Mankind could not experience the cleansing from sin and be born again, until AFTER Christ's sacrifice on the cross. Because of His atonement, when "whosoever will believe," will receive a NEW heart. This is Spiritual transaction from God Himself! God can now write His laws in our minds and upon our hearts. It is no longer the law written on tables of stone, saying, "Thou shalt not." It is the law written upon our hearts, saying, "Because you now LOVE me you will keep my commandments."
Mankind can now keep those commandments, because God has taken up His dwelling place once again in the heart. This is that NEW TESTAMENT that Christ spoke of as He said... "This is the New Testament in my blood, which is shed for you."

The Apostle Paul instructed the church of God at Corinth... "For I have received of the Lord that which also I delivered unto you, That the Lord Jesus the same night in which he was betrayed took bread: And when he had given thanks, he brake it, and said, Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me. After the same manner also he took the cup, when he had supped, saying, This is the cup of the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of me. For as often as ye eat of this bread, and drink of this cup, ye do shew the Lord's death till he come. Wherefore whosoever shall eat this bread, and drink this cup of the Lord unworthily, shall be guilty of the body and the blood of the Lord. But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of that bread, and drink of that cup. For he that eateth and drinketh unworthily, eateth and drinketh damnation to himself, not discerning the Lord's body." (1 Cor.11:23-29)
This act of partaking of the bread and the cup may also serve as a means of claiming the promises of God for our personal lives. This act is not to be relegated only to a "church service." It is a remembrance that can be enjoyed in the private prayer closet. I have experienced a strenghening faith to believe God for my needs as I lift the elements of covenant before Him. It is a physical attachment that confirms our believing for that which God has promised.
It is written..."All the promises of God are yea and in Him amen to them that believe."
Again it is written..."When ye pray believe that ye receive and ye shall have whatsoever ye say."
Partaking of the bread and the fruit of the vine affirm a beginning stand for that which we will believe God for. This is an everlasting covenant that God has made through Christ for us to live the victorious life, which He has bought through His precious blood.

Thou art the Bread of Life, O Lord to me, Thy holy Word the Truth that saveth me; Give me to eat and live with thee above; Teach me to love Thy Truth for Thou art Love.
O send Thy Spirit, Lord, Now unto me, That He may touch my eyes and make me see: Show me the Truth concealed with-in Thy Word. And in thy book revealed I see the Lord.
Amen
